Besides this news, what else is worth paying attention to this month? Let’s take a look together!

Reduction in Overnight Policy Rate (OPR)
  • Bank Negara Malaysia announced a 25 basis points reduction in the OPR, lowering it from 3.00% to 2.75%, marking the first cut since May 2023. This move aims to support economic growth and reflects a cautious assessment of the current economic environment.
  • Despite easing inflation, the central bank remains vigilant regarding government policies and the impact of U.S. tariffs. The OPR cut will reduce borrowing costs, easing mortgage burdens, but may also affect interest income for savers.
Parents Can Register Children Aged 14+ for i-Saraan
  • Parents are now eligible to register their children aged 14 and above for the KWSP i-Saraan scheme to encourage early retirement savings planning.
  • From age 16, children can begin voluntary contributions; contributing RM2,500 annually qualifies them for a 20% government matching subsidy of up to RM500 per year, with a lifetime cap of RM5,000.
MySejahtera Fully Upgraded
  • Transitioning from a pandemic registration tool to a comprehensive medical records platform, MySejahtera now allows users to access their treatment records from government hospitals and clinics and continue booking outpatient appointments. The Ministry of Health is collaborating with private hospitals to integrate additional medical data, offering a one-stop health information system.
Royal Malaysia Police Launches Online Reporting System
  • The Royal Malaysia Police introduced the e-Reporting system, enabling the public to report non-criminal lost items such as identity cards, passports, ATM cards, and mobile phones without visiting a police station.
  • Users can register and submit detailed reports via the official website (https://ereporting.rmp.gov.my/) and receive confirmation emails and report receipts.
  • The system covers non-criminal losses like IDs, valuables, maid abscondment, and disaster damage, while criminal cases still require in-person reporting. It offers convenient, 24/7 online access.
Minimum Wage of RM1,700 Effective August 1
  • Malaysia will implement a mandatory minimum monthly wage of RM1,700 starting 1 August 2025, applicable to all employers.
  • Employers who violate this policy face fines up to RM10,000 per employee, with repeat offenders potentially subject to imprisonment.
  • The minimum wage adjustment also raises daily and hourly rates—for example, daily wages for a six-day workweek increase from RM57.69 to RM65.38, and hourly wages from RM7.21 to RM8.72—ensuring fairer compensation for workers.
SARA One-off Living Allowance
  • Prime Minister Anwar announced that starting 31 August 2025, the government will distribute a one-time RM100 cost of living subsidy via the “MyMalaysia Card” to all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above, usable on selected daily essentials until 31 December 2025.
  • Beneficiaries need only present their identity cards at designated stores to redeem the subsidy and can check their balance and participating merchants via the official website, MyKasih app, or TNG eWallet.
