i-Saraan Incentive has increased to RM500! Beyond this, what other headlines will unfold in the coming month? Let’s explore the anticipated news highlights.

STR Aid Distribution
  • The STR financial aid distribution for 2024 has begun! Recipients in Single group can receive RM100, senior citizens with no spouse can get RM150, and households with a monthly income below RM2500 are eligible for RM500. Households with monthly incomes ranging from RM2501 to RM5000 can receive between RM100 and RM300.

  • Recipients without a bank account can collect the aids via BSN counters directly. If someone else is collecting on their behalf, relevant documents must be presented at the BSN counter.
i-Saraan Incentive Has Increased to RM500
  • To encourage self-employed individuals to voluntarily contribute to the EPF, the i-Saraan incentives has been raised to RM500. Self-employeds below 60 years old are eligible to apply for the i-Saraan, receiving an additional incentive of 15% or a maximum of RM500 per year for their EPF deposits. In other words, for every RM3334 contributed, the government provides a RM500 incentive.

  • It’s worth noting that starting in 2024, the government has set a lifetime cap for beneficiaries, limiting them to a maximum incentive of RM5000.
SSPN Personal Tax Relief Remains Effective
  • SSPN is a savings scheme designed by the government for the purpose of savings for higher education. By depositing into SSPN accounts, parents are eligible to enjoy a personal tax relief of up to RM8,000.

  • For instance, if Mr. A deposits a total of RM6,000 for his child in this year and withdraws RM2,000, then, he is eligible for a tax relief of RM4,000.

  • Besides parents, single adults can deposit to SSPN account too, but savings in this scenario won’t qualify for income tax relief.
Increase of water tariff, how to read the water meter?
  • Starting from February 1, water bills in areas like Selangor, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, and Terengganu will increase. If your water bill spikes next month, it might be due to the price adjustment.

  • How can you ensure that your water bill amount is accurate?
Malaysian water meters have 8 digits: the first 4 in black on a white background, and the next 4 in white on a red background indicating decimal points. Water charges are calculated per cubic meter (m³).

  • For example, if the reading shows water usage of 748.1910m³, the meter reader will record only 748m³.

  • The difference between current and previous month reading will determine the latest month’s water usage. The charge per m³ varies in each state, and multiplying water usage by the charge helps calculate the monthly water bill.

  • Great news! The MyJPJ app now allows you to renew your driver’s license and road tax online. Updating your license or road tax through the app not only saves time but also offers a RM5 discount!

  • Additionally, although the government has implemented the electronic road tax and licenses, JPJ mentions that they will still continue providing hardcopy of road tax and license to meet the needs of the public.
KWSP now accepts deposits using debit cards
  • As everyone knows, KWSP has allowed members to make EPF deposits via debit cards, offering added convenience for those not familiar with online bank transfers.
