This month’s key updates, clearly consolidated for you!
New Traffic Compound System
- Effective 1 January 2026, traffic fines will offer higher discounts for earlier payment.
- 50% discount if paid within 15 days, 33% if paid within 16–30 days. Unpaid cases after 60 days may face court action or blacklisting.
Solar ATAP Programme
- The Solar ATAP programme reopens for applications in January 2026.
- No quota limit; excess electricity can be sold to the TNB at market rates. Installation capacity limits for residential systems have also been increased.
Schooling Assistance (BAP)
- In 2026, the government will continue providing RM150 Schooling Assistance (Bantuan Awal Persekolahan) to all primary and secondary students, benefiting over 5.2 million students.
- The cash aid will be distributed directly to parents at schools starting January 11, aiming to strengthen teacher-parent-student engagement through in-person interaction.
Sarawak Basic Necessities Assistance (SKAS) Enhancement
- From 2026, Sarawak will increase SKAS assistance amounts for eligible households and individuals.
- Household aid rises from RM800 to RM950; assistance for senior citizens and single individuals increases to RM500 and RM300, respectively.
Social Media Account Restriction for Under-16s
- From 2026, individuals under 16 will be prohibited from independently opening social media accounts; access must be supervised by parents.
- Platforms will be required to implement mandatory eKYC verification using official identification.
Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA)
- In 2026, eligible households and individuals will continue receiving SARA assistance of RM50–RM100 per month, with higher support for the extreme poor, up to RM2,400 annually.
- Funds will be credited to recipients’ MyKad and used at designated outlets for essential goods, helping to ease living costs.
