Government Supports SMEs in Developing Local Talent: RM2,000 Grant per Intern Hired

To assist companies in developing local talent and improve internship-to-employment pathways,
the Malaysian Government, through TalentCorp, has launched the LiKES (Internship Placement Matching Grant for SMEs) program, offering internship grants to eligible SMEs.
Starting 1 March 2026, eligible companies hiring one local intern can receive a grant of up to RM2,000 per intern.

  • Grant Amount:RM2,000 per intern (advance payment)
  • Total Allocation:RM30,000,000
  • Estimated Beneficiaries: Approximately 25,000 interns
  • Approval Efficiency: Processing time has been significantly reduced from ~90 working days to about 14 working days. Funds can be disbursed in as little as 2 weeks once all documents are complete.
  • SMEs and startups
  • Employers intending to provide structured internship programs
  • Employers willing to hire suitable interns after completion of training
  • Minimum 10 weeks of internship training (up to 6 months)
  • Stipend must meet regulatory requirements (RM500–600 per month, based on education level)
  • Stipend portion may be eligible for RM250–300 per month grant from TalentCorp

 

According to the Minister of Human Resources, the LiKES program helps to:

  • Reduce talent development costs for companies
  • Enhance the quality and skill focus of internships
  • Strengthen the transition from internship to full-time employment

Employers can apply through the TalentCorp platform, select and train their interns, and directly hire them as employees after completing the internship.
