The government has introduced several new policies that may affect daily life. These include changes in tax regulations, SST expansion, social media rules for minors, lottery verification requirements, electric vehicle road tax, transport fares, and the rollout of the new MyKad. Citizens are advised to stay informed, plan accordingly, and share relevant information with those who may be affected.

MyKasih Login Update
Effective from 2026, the previous SMS OTP (One-Time Password) verification has been replaced with an Email Verification Code, improving account security and verification efficiency.
Traffic Fine Early Payment Discounts
To encourage timely payment of traffic fines, the following tiered discount structure applies:
- Within 15 days: 50% discount
- Within 16–30 days: 33% discount
- Within 31–60 days: No discount
After 61 days: May be blacklisted
ID Required for Lottery Transactions
Effective 1 January 2026, anyone who purchases or claims lottery winnings of RM10,000 or above must present their MyKad and submit personal details. All information will be used exclusively for LHDN tax reporting and is protected under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).
Social Media Restrictions for Minors (Under 16)
From 1 January 2026, individuals under 16 years old are not allowed to independently register or use social media accounts. Usage is permitted only under full parental or guardian supervision.
Expansion of SST Coverage
From July 2025, the Sales and Service Tax (SST) coverage has been gradually expanded and will be fully enforced from 1 January 2026.
Affected sectors include rental services, construction, financial services, private healthcare for non-citizens, education, and beauty services.
Registration thresholds: RM500,000 annual turnover for most services; RM1,500,000 for construction services.
EV Road Tax
Effective 1 January 2026, electric vehicles (EVs) will be subject to road tax, which will be calculated based on motor power (kW).
New MyKad
From 1 June 2026, the National Registration Department (NRD) will roll out a new generation MyKad in phases. The new card will feature a QR code for quick verification and will replace the old MyKad that has been in use since 2012.
Littering Fines
Effective 1 January 2026, littering is punishable by a fine of up to RM2,000 and may require up to 12 hours of community service, applicable to all nationalities.

New Tax-Free Vehicle Limit
From 2026, only vehicles priced up to RM300,000 purchased in Langkawi and Labuan are eligible for tax exemption.
Rapid KL Ticket Price Adjustments
From 2026, certain Rapid KL passes will have updated prices:
- Rapid Kota: 1-day RM10, 3-day RM25
- Rapid Kembara: 1-day RM25, 3-day RM55
All other fares remain unchanged.
