2027 Budget:Measures to Boost Wages

Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will table the 2027 Budget on 9 October, with stronger measures expected to improve workers’ wages.

The government aims to ensure employees benefit more fairly from economic and productivity growth,

including helping graduates secure jobs that match their qualifications.

GLCs have also been urged to raise their minimum monthly wage to RM3,100, with the measure expected to take effect from 2027.

SIP Benefits to Be Enhanced from October 2026

Starting 1 October 2026, four benefits under Malaysia’s Employment Insurance System (SIP) will be enhanced:

Early Re-employment Allowance (EBSA): Increased from 25% to 50% of the remaining EMP.
Training Allowance: RM30 per day for approved training.
Training Fees: Covered by SIP, up to RM7,000.
Mobility Assistance: RM1,000 one-off allowance for workers who secure a job more than 100km from their original residence.
The changes will take effect from 1 October 2026.

BUDI Diesel Eligibility Transfer Rules Eased

The government has relaxed the BUDI Diesel eligibility transfer rules, allowing vehicle owners to transfer their subsidy eligibility to any eligible Malaysian citizen, instead of only immediate family members.

Owners with multiple diesel vehicles can transfer eligibility to up to 3 people, depending on the number of vehicles.
Applications are open year-round and require MyDigital ID login.
Apply by the 27th: Recipient can receive the subsidy from the 1st of the following month.
Apply after the 27th: Eligibility will only take effect the following month.

Note: Once approved, the transfer is generally irreversible except in specific circumstances.

Holders of These 3 Old MyKad Types Must Replace Their IDs

The National Registration Department (JPN) will phase in a new MyKad from 17 September 2026.

Replacement applies to Malaysian citizens holding:

Plastic Identity Card (KPP)
High-Quality Identity Card (KPT)
First-generation MyKad without a Ghost Image

Existing holders of the current MyKad do not need to replace it immediately just because the new MyKad is being introduced.
Those affected should follow JPN’s announced replacement schedule.

Update Your MyKad Address If You Move for More Than 90 Days

According to the National Registration Department (JPN), MyKad holders who move to a new residence and stay there for more than 90 days are required to update the address on their MyKad to keep their records up to date.

Under Section 15 of the National Registration Act 1990 (Amendment 2001), applicants must provide proof of their new address,

such as a utility bill, broadband bill, or satellite TV bill, when updating their address.

Failure to comply may result in a fine of up to RM20,000, imprisonment of up to 3 years, or both.
